About Us

Manaaki Broadband

Manaaki Broadband is based in the beautiful Northland city of Whangarei where we have been providing broadband connections for several years.

We are a small, family-owned Internet Service Provider (ISP) that takes pride in delivering personal service to our valued customers. Being small does not mean we under-deliver, on the contrary, we go out of our way to ensure a great customer experience.

You call or message us and you will be answered by one of our team members in a timely fashion. We go the extra mile to help or existing customers with any issues and when dealing with people that are interested in getting a connection with us.

While we are not able to offer "bundled" packages such as Power & Gas like the bigger Telco's out there, we are able to provide honest, fast broadband on either Fibre or Copper at competitive prices.

The very fact that we are a small business means we can offer "one on one" personal service, something that is sadly lacking amongst the big telcos out there. We will go the extra mile to assist our customers any way we can to ensure complete satisfaction.

While we are Whangarei based, we can provide fibre or copper broadband connections anywhere in New Zealand.

Manaaki Broadband

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common questions about how Manaaki Broadband works and what we can do for you.

Is fibre broadbane available in my area? The Ultra Fast Broadband rollout has made great progress, so the vast majority of NZ can now get connected to Fibre at their place.
Who can get Manaaki broadband? Our unlimited home broadband plans are available to residential customers: it's intended for your home, not your business. As long as you can get a fixed-line fast internet connection at your house on Fibre or Copper, we'd love you have you aboard, but please note that the Consumer Guarantees Act applies only to residential customers.
Do I get a router with Manaaki broadband? Our default plans do not include a router. You can rent a Manaaki Broadband router that will work on ADSL, VDSL or Fibre broadband for $10 per month, plus a one-off courier fee of $14.95, or purchase it for $120. If you are renting one of our routers, you are required to return it to us in good condition (if you want, we can send you out a courier bag for $14.95, or you can arrange this yourself) or pay the purchase price of the router, $120.
Will my own router work?

If you have your own router then you might be able to use it for your Manaaki BB internet connection. It depends on the type of router you have, and what internet service you are ordering (ADSL, VDSL or fibre.)

If you're ordering a home phone service from Manaaki BB as well as Broadband then you will need to use a Manaaki Broadband router.

Is your "unlimited data" plan truly unlimited? Here at Manaaki BB we believe that "Unlimited" should mean unlimited: no slow downs, no traffic shaping, no hidden charges. We want to make sure that this is true for everyone. As much as we can, we'll let you do whatever you want on our network as fast as you can, but sometimes there's a chance that very, very high usage will start to affect our other customers, and when that happens, we'll talk to you about solutions that work both for you and for our other customers. We define "Fair Use" to mean the usage patterns of 99% of our users, assessed on a monthly basis.
How do I make changes to my service?Once you're up and running, you can always contact us on our Facebook Page or by emailing us at manaakibroadband@gmail.com or if you're moving house.
What are your contract terms & early termination charges? If freedom and flexibility are important to you, you've come to the right place. All of our residential broadband plans are open term, with no contracts locking you in. The exception is new Northpower or Chorus fibre installations which have a 12 month minimum term unfortunately. If fibre is already installed in your home, then our normal 30 days notice applies. If you ever want to leave us (although we hope you dont!), all you have to do is give us 30 days notice. If you are renting one of our routers, you are required to return it to us in good condition (if you want, we can send you out a courier bag for $14.95, or you can arrange this yourself) or pay the purchase price of the router, $120
How do I pay you?You can pay us via Credit / Debit Card or if you'd like to set up a Direct Debit, we will email you a form. Our first bill to you will include more options if those don't work for you.
What do I need to do if I'm switching from another provider?

Once you provide us with the details of your current broadband connection, we'll do the work coordinating the transfer with your old internet provider. As a rule of thumb, you don't need to talk to your old provider at all about the services you specifically tell us to switch over, but we recommend calling them once we've switched you over to make sure there aren't any extra charges or services still on your account with them that you want with us instead.

Please note: some services, like fixed copper phone lines, mobile phones or email accounts, may need to stay with your existing provider, and you may need to discuss these with your existing provider before the transfer to ensure they don't accidentally cut you off. Give us a call on 08006387827 to discuss if you're unsure, we can help you figure out what you need to do.

How long will it take to connect me?

If you have an existing connection you've asked to transfer to us, generally only a few days to a week - we'll email you as soon as we have a confirmed date. To make sure things go as smoothly as possible, please make sure you supply the correct account name and account number for your current ISP. If you're transferring to us and upgrading at the same time, things could take a little more time.

If you're ordering a brand new ADSL or VDSL connection through us, we should let you know within a couple of days when we expect it to be done-most of the time this is around a week from the time you order If you're ordering a new Fibre connection, and you live in a single house that faces the road that you own, with no shared driveways or Right of Way, your connection should be done within a couple of weeks, barring any unforeseen delays.

If you rent, the fibre company will need to gain the written consent of your landlord. If you live in a building with other tenants (like a row of flats or an apartment building) or have a shared driveway, and none of the tenants currently have Fibre, installing Fibre can take quite a bit longer, as the fibre company will need to gain written consent from every affected landlord.

Shortly after your order gets underway, the fibre installation company will begin contacting landlords (if you or your neighbours haven't heard anything after several weeks, please let us know so we can follow up).

How does the installation work? We'll arrange a date to come and install fibre at your place. On the pre- arranged installation date you will need to be home while the technician does the work. There are a number of steps:
  • Agree - the technician meets you, goes through and agrees installation requirements.
  • Build - the technician extends the fibre network to the boundary of your property and make it ready for fibre.
  • Connect - the technician will complete internal wiring, physical setup, test your connection and you are good to go!
The installer will attempt to complete ABC on the same day, although that may vary largely dependent on the complexity of the cabling work required at your premises.
Will fibre affect my monitored security or medical alarm? If you have a monitored alarm that is essential to your safety or health, we would recommend you check with your alarm provider before ordering a fibre service.
Do you have any connection Fees?

Yes, unfortunately fees are unavoidable as we are charged fees by our wholesaler. The standard connection fee is $110.00 which will include a new Wi-Fi Modem suitable for fibre speeds up to 300mb/sec. We are happy to work with you if paying for the connection fee upfront is difficult. You can pay a $50 connection fee & hire the modem from us for an additional $2.50 per week.

ADSL & VDSL Connection Fees: Please note, Chorus may be required to visit your home to complete your ADSL or VDSL connection / installation. If they do complete a site visit, they have a standard charge of $160.00 that you will have to agree too before the connection can be ordered.

What is your PrePay 7 Plan? Our PrePay 7 Plan (PP7) is a default plan we will put you on if you are unable to make your payments for our broadband service we provide. Rather than disconnect you and send any debt to a collection agency, we will transition you to PP7 and work with you on a weekly basis. During The weeks where you are unable to pay in advance for your internet, we will place the connection on hold until you are in a position to prepay for a 7 day block of broadband. Once the payment has been received, your broadband connection will be taken off hold for the 7 days you have prepaid for.
